About Us

Founded in 1973, the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club has evolved into the most comprehensive program in track and field in all of Canada! The strength of our club resides in our exceptional coaching staff, not only in its achievement of international success, but in its ability to recognize the needs and abilities of all athletes. We are an inclusive program offering opportunities suitable for all levels of ability and development

Through its commitment to service the National Capital region and its drawing athletes from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, the Club has emerged as one of the top competitive Clubs in Canada. In any given year, the Lions place numerous members on many national teams. This includes our most celebrated athlete: Olympic Gold Medalist - Glenroy Gilbert, as well as Sydney 2000 Olympian Sean Kaley, and 2010 Commonwealth Champion, Sultana Frizell in hammer throw.

Our coaching staff has distinguished themselves amongst Canada's finest. They include 1996 Olympic Head Coach - Andy McInnis, 2000 Junior Team Coach - Hugh Conlin, and 2000 World Cross Country Coach - Ray Elrick. Since 2000 145 Ottawa Lions have been selected for Canadian teams to compete or coach at the International level. The Club has also produced more than 350 National Championship medalists, 238 Ontario Championship Medalists and, has regularly been the top club at the National Senior and Junior Championships and the top club in Ontario in most age classes.

Our Programs now run year-round sharing two international class facilities. From May to October the newly renovated Terry Fox Athletic Facility at Mooney's Bay Park is the centre for our activities. From November to April our programs shift to the new Dome on the campus of Ecole secondaire publique Louis-Riel. The incredible new Dome in Ottawa East houses the first Indoor 400 meter track facility in North America and the only one in Canada, bringing summer all winter-long to Ottawa. Please see the Dome web site link on our home page for detailed facility information and driving directions..
